Reflection - Session 5(digital literacy strategies (encoding/decoding)

Reflect on your experiences as a student learning one of your subjects in high school. Give examples of the different types of digital literacy strategies (encoding/decoding) that you were required to use.  How effective was your teacher’s use of visuals in enhancing the learning in your class?  Refer to some of the guidelines and principles that we read about in Chapter 8.

When I was high school, my computer instructor were teaching  us  how to write a computer program language. I observed that we were encoding the code in a rule by typing to software editor and then it was shown as an output and we were decoding the that process by evaluating the result.  Furthermore ,we were using some special videos to improve our programming language . it is also a kind of decoding process since we  evaluated ,understood and learned how to write a programming language. It allows students to understand effectively and  visually by using some visual materials. It helped instructor  to enhance the learning process thanks to the visual contents and principles. As a guideline and principles, we were seeing  or observing the relationship between result and input process. While working as an group, our encouraging  creativity was improving.

Session 4 (Reflection on a student learning English and used the ASSURE model)

Reflect on your experiences as a student learning English. When you consider the use of instructional technology and media by your teacher, can you identify what steps in the ASSURE model that were used? If the teacher in fact included all the steps, do you think this improved the effectiveness of the lesson? If the teacher did not include all the steps, which were missed?  Did this omission negatively impact on the effectiveness of the lesson?

When I was Preparatory School, our teacher was analyzing the learning styles of students and try to apply the way to transport information in proper conditions .So ,this allows that students have been participated the lecture currency and follow the steps which was hold in class. Moreover, she was trying to select some media as a computer software to teach the vocabulary and remind easily them like flash card applications or traditional flash cards and teacher wanted us to participate the flash card game and was waiting to take feedback from student so that she could evaluate the students and see the future plan how to improve their learning process.
I think that if  the teacher apply all steps in a good way, the effectiveness of the lesson must be perfect as it support students learning process. On the other hand, if teacher miss the one step or choose inappropriate app ,I am sure that it will affect the all steps at the same time.

The Student Response System "SOCRATIVE"

How could you use STUDENT RESPONSE SYSTEMS like SOCRATIVE with students to enhance the learning process? What are the advantages/disadvantages of using a ‘student response system’ like SOCRATIVE?

Actually ,I think that there are plenty of advantages using the response system just like SOCRATIVE web site. One of the most remarkable and importance property of this application is that it provides users or students and teachers to engage ,participate ,evaluate the many staffs. It contains lots of quizzes ,educational exercises for students.  Students can see the content of the exam or quiz in real time and flow the questions at the same time by using some games. This improves the point of view students and enjoy and learn them while playing. In addition that, teacher can evaluate and share the results to the students easily without any mistakes.

In my opinion ,there should not be any disadvantages about this apps.

"The Gambler"

On a warm summer's eve
On a train bound for nowhere
I met up with the gambler
We were both too tired to
So we took turns a-starin'
Out the window at the darkness
The boredom overtook us, he to speak

He said, "Son, I've made a life
Out of readin' people's faces
Knowin' what the cards were
By the way they held their eyes
So if you don't mind me sayin'
I can see you're out of aces
For a taste of your whiskey
I'll give you some advice"

So I handed him my bottle
And he drank down my last swallow
Then he bummed a cigarette
And asked me for a light
And the night got deathly quiet
And his faced lost all expression
He said, "If you're gonna play the game, boy
You gotta learn to play it right

You've got to know when to hold 'em
Know when to fold 'em
Know when to walk away
Know when to run
You never count your money
When you're sittin' at the table
There'll be time enough for countin'
When the dealin's done

Every gambler knows
That the secret to survivin'
Is knowin' what to throw away
And knowin' what to keep
'Cause every hand's a winner
And every hand's a loser
And the best that you can hope for
Is to die in your sleep"

And when he finished speakin'
He turned back toward the window
Crushed out his cigarette
And faded off to sleep
And somewhere in the darkness
The gambler he broke even
And in his final words
I found an ace that I could keep

You've got to know when to hold 'em
Know when to fold 'em
Know when to walk away
And know when to run
You never count your money
When you're sittin' at the table
There'll be time enough for countin'
When the dealin's done

You've got to know when to hold 'em
(When to hold 'em)
Know when to fold 'em
(When to fold 'em)
Know when to walk away
And know when to run
You never count your money
When you're sittin' at the table
There'll be time enough for countin'
When the dealin's done

You've got to know when to hold 'em
Know when to fold 'em
Know when to walk away
And know when to run
You never count your money
When you're sittin' at the table
There'll be time enough for countin'
When the dealin's done

Reflection on the four learning theory perspectives (Chapter 2)

Learning Theories

Reflect on the four learning theory perspectives discussed in Chapter 2.  Give examples of activities you experienced as a student in high school or preparatory school in which the teacher based the lesson (or part of the lesson) on any  two of the four learning theories.  How effective were the activities?  Now that you are a teacher-in-training, what advice would you give to the teacher regarding the use of technology in support of the different perspectives on learning?

The activity I experienced as a student in high school was the two of the learning theories ,cognitivist and constructivist perspective. In my high school , one of teacher was applying the cognitivist perspective by teaching how we control and manage the short and long term memory. By doing this ,we were trying to combine information to develop cognitive strategies or skills for cope with the problems. We were not dependent the teacher. Unlike ,we were using our own strategies  . Furthermore, same teacher were using the constructivist perspective approach . We were making our own experiment on computer and could see what happened at the end of experiment. We were more active than ever before and participate the currency of experiment or class. Teacher have just shown us way to take information and gather them  than transferring the information directly.

If I were a teacher in training ,I would try to use  cognitivist and constructivist perspective since these two approach is quite important to develop and improve as individually  in students perspective. They will touch ,see ,think, evaluate, observe, manage the experiment or thoughts what they do.

The ASSURE Model of Learning

Think back to a teacher from high school that you thought had been effective in helping students learn and achieve the objectives of your course. What steps in the ASSURE model did that teacher follow? What was missing?  Write your reflection up in a post in your blog.

When I was at high school, my teachers were trying to apply  the ASSURE steps like analyze learners, evaluate and revise, require learner participation ,state objectives . However, many of the these steps could not be achieved by teachers since teachers should have been educated and improved in terms of skills or behavior but  they were wanting to transport information through the student as far as they can do.

An Introduction to Technology Integration(Homework)

What level of technology integration do you think you will be able to achieve when you start teaching? What obstacles or hurdles do you anticipate you might encounter when you attempt to integrate technology into your teaching. Which or these obstacles will come from the school administration, from your peers, or from yourself? How could you overcome any of these? Write up your ideas in a post in your blog.

I think that I will be successful teacher to be able to use technological tools about technology integration when I start teaching. Because our university department about Information Technology, we have a chance to be good educator. Thanks to the our department curriculum , we will have  a updated knowledge about technological integration and tools. Moreover, except for our department's advantage about IT, we need to do research and  improve ourselves about technological integration tools. We should fallow this field also.

When I attempt to integrate technology in my teaching, I may have difficulties to get used to technological tools at the beginning. However, I am sure that I will be overcoming soon. Before starting to teaching, we may inspect about that technology how it is used effectively. Thanks to this approach ,we can cope with this difficulty.

Reflection on the literacy skills (Chapter 1)

As a candidate of teacher, we always need to be up to date our knowledge and skills because technology is improving and changing so fast that's why we have some responsibilities.
Otherwise, we cannot play a good role in classroom. As a model of students, we need to reflect our knowledge and experiences through to the students in an energetic and emphatic way. We try to be creative, experimental, innovator, planner, emphatic, inspirational, inventor, problem solver, collaborator , optimistic and so on.
Furthermore, patient and  focusing the subject is key role to be successful in your future plans, we can overcome the demands of university by using these are. If you want to be a good educator, you need to upgrade yourself ,follow new approaches in different field ,like technology ,culture, sport and so on, there is no other way to be successful in this field. First Week Assignment [How would you describe the current use of technology...]

1) a)How would you describe the current use of technology in teaching in Turkey?

I think that the current use of technology in teaching in Turkey is not effective. One of the example, which is a campaign about providing tablets to all high school students in Turkey, have proven that as far as I know and read from newspaper ,tablets couldn't be resulted in changing education method than authorities expected. This campaign didn't allow to collaborate or communicate between students and teachers. The tablets was used in a short period. This may be the result of the inadequate of students or teachers about using technological devices in effective way.

b)When you graduate and start teaching, what changes in the technology in education do you predict?

When I start teaching, I don't think that there will be a big changes as materials we use in classrooms when we compare the today's technological devices. Of course , If there happens a big gap between today and in next three years , our teaching method should be changed

c)Will the new technology make your job as a teacher easier or more difficult?

As a candidate of teacher, in my opinion ,technological improvement in education will allow us to help in transferring information to the students .In addition to this,it will improve our point of view in looking at the education process  in different ways. It is certain than transferring the information can be more way easier than it used to be before. Maybe more than two or three years , all concept in classroom can change .However, in this short period ,I don't think so.

 2) Evaluating the CTE 213 Course(Computer Hardware)
